The State-Run Russian Media Publish Articles Calling for the Ethnocide of the Ukrainian People
The state-run Russian media publish articles calling for the ethnocide of the Ukrainian people at a time when Ukrainians and the world are mourning the victims of the mass shootings in the Kyiv region. The Ombudsman of Ukraine Lyudmyla Denisova wrote about this, citing the Russian propaganda publishing RIA, which published an article “What Russia should do with Ukraine”.
“The publication openly proves and justifies the need for ethnocide of the Ukrainian people, reveals Russia’s true aspirations in the war against Ukraine and even a post-war plan to instill its ideology in our country”, wrote Lyudmyla Denisova.
The article cites the narrative of “denazification”, which has now openly changed to “de-Ukrainization”.
The author of the article openly declares the entire Ukrainian people as being wrong, promoting the need to destroy Ukrainians, the Ukrainian language and culture through mass repression.
“By publishing open calls for genocide of Ukrainians on Russian state websites, the Russian Federation has openly turned to the rhetoric of Nazi criminals, and hatred of every Ukrainian has become a national idea – the destruction of Ukraine and its population”, wrote Lyudmyla Denisova.
Calling for the ethnocide of the Ukrainian people, Russia is legalizing military action on the territory of Ukraine in the eyes of Russians and creating a basis for hate crimes, the ombudsman wrote.
“And due to severe restrictions on freedom of speech in Russia, the effect of the spread of publications that incite hatred against Ukrainians, is amplified many times over”, she said.
She reminded that the world community, international law and humanistic morality strongly condemn all manifestations of ethnocide and consider it a crime against humanity.
“This is another violation of the UN Charter after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine”, she said.
She appealed to the UN Commission to investigate human rights violations during Russia’s Military Invasion of Ukraine and an expert mission set up by OSCE participating states under the Moscow Mechanism to consider these facts of massive and targeted human rights violations in Ukraine.
