A Memorial is Planned to Commemorate the Bridge in Irpin and the Past Occupation

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky plans to build a memorial complex dedicated to the destroyed bridge between Irpin and Kyiv and the residents of Kyiv region who suffered at the hands of the Russians. He stated this in a video message.

“We discussed the issue of remembering what Ukrainians experienced during this war. We discussed how to preserve parts of this experience so that it would always remind all generations of our people of what a brutal, senseless invasion Ukraine was able to fend off.

As one of the examples, a project of a memorial complex is being prepared, which will tell the story of the destroyed bridge in the Kyiv region, which connected Irpin and Bucha with Kyiv. Stories of people who escaped this bridge and this road to Kyiv from the Russian invaders”.

As Ukrainian Pravda reports:

• The bridge over the Irpin River, located in the areas of Bucha, Irpin and Gostomel, was reconstructed in 2010.
• On February 27, 2022, during the defensive battles for Kyiv during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the bridge was blown up.
• Under the ruins of this bridge people hid from the attacks of aircraft and artillery of the Russian army. The photo of this shocked the world.
• A temporary bridge connecting Irpin, Bucha, Gostomel, Vorzel with Kyiv opened on April 11.
