Irpen Medical Institutions Visited by Minister Viktor Lyashko and WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus

Healthcare facilities in Irpin were visited by the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko and the Director of the Regional Department Olena Yefimenko. The reason for the visit was the humanitarian crisis and the devastating consequences of Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. This was announced by Andriy Levkivskyi, director of the Irpin City Center for Primary Health Care.

“Together with the mayor Oleksandr Markushyn and deputy Anton Golovenko, they conducted a tour of our health care facilities and told about the heroic defense of our city and the work of medical workers during the fighting. For his part, Mr. Tedros expressed his condolences to the people of our region and called for support from the World Health Organization (WHO)”, he wrote.

According to Olga Prymachenko, a family doctor from Irpin, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus found exactly the words of support that doctors needed and motivate them to continue their struggle on the medical front. “He noted that he was impressed by the courage and professionalism of our medical staff. From the first day of the war, our medics kept up the front of saving the human life on a par with the military. For its part, the WHO will continue to promote the support of Ukrainian doctors and create conditions that will be able to thank Ukraine with dignity for their resilience and courage”, said the doctor.
