Railway Service Restored Between Irpin and Kyiv (video)
In Irpin, the railway bridge was restored, which was destroyed by the Russian military during the occupation of the city. Today it passed the first train (video). This was announced by Irpin Mayor Oleksandr Markushyn and he told the details (video).
“We have a railway connection! Today, for the first time in several weeks, an electric train arrived at the Irpin railway station. I thank the management and staff of Ukrzaliznytsia, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov, the head of the President’s Office and our President for their assistance in the rapid restoration of our legendary bridge!”
We will remind, the bridge was planned to be restored till May 8, therefore, works were completed in time. In total, 5 bridges were destroyed after the Russian invasion of Irpin region.
A temporary crossing over the Irpin River, near the Romanivka Bridge, has already been launched. A memorial is planned to be erected in memory of the occupation. Ukrainian designer Ivan Ogienko has already created a project for a possible future memorial complex in Irpin. The concept is to preserve part of the old bridge and rebuild it next to the new one.
The connection between Kyiv and Zhytomyr has also been restored. A temporary crossing over the Irpin River was opened near the Stoyanka.
