Russian occupiers destroyed 50% of buildings in Irpin. Irpin Mayor Oleksandr Markushyn spoke about this during a telethon.

“The main task now is to gather the bodies of our dead residents. There are about 200 people. We will bury them. We will inform relatives about them”, the mayor said.

He also added that the blockages and streets need to be cleared. “Of course, we will now ask many to help us with technology, help with human resources… 50% of the city, unfortunately, was destroyed. It takes a lot of time and work to restore this. We are in contact with all utilities, everyone is starting to gather and will repair critical infrastructure”, he said.

The mayor also said that patrols are working in the city to identify looters. “All looters will clear the blockages, clear the streets and be punished according to the law”, he added.

According to Oleksandr Markushin, there are currently up to 4,000 residents left in Irpin. “I urge others not to return yet, because there are no communications, water, electricity, gas, the sewerage system is not working and the blockages must be removed from the streets. It is necessary to check the territory where the Russians were with explosives technicians so that no one was injured. Many mines were scattered, many shells were scattered, which did not explode”, he said.

We will remind, on March 28 Irpin was liberated from the Russian troops. The city is beginning to resume its activities. Currently, there are ongoing clearings from looting and mining. According to the mayor of Irpin, the looters will be held accountable in accordance with the law and will clear the blockages of the city.
