Sixties Artist Lyubov Panchenko Dies of Hunger in Occupied Bucha

Ukrainian artist of the sixties, winner of the Vasyl Stus Prize, Lyubov Panchenko, died in Bucha. She was 84. During the occupation of the city by the Rashists, the woman went on a hunger strike. Journalists wrote that the artist was lying down, she needed constant care. On April 2, after Bucha’s deoccupation, Panchenko was taken to the capital’s hospital. Bucha Mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk announced the artist’s death on his Facebook page.

“The woman passed away at the age of 85. Lyubov Panchenko could not be broken by the KGB, but the artist suffered greatly during the new Russian invasion,”, Fedoruk wrote.

It is known that the artist transferred her artistic heritage to the “Museum of the Sixties”, so the works were preserved, but the artist herself was in hospital in very poor condition.

“She is one of the sixties patriots who, despite Kremlin pressure, developed Ukrainian culture during the Soviet era. All her work had a pronounced Ukrainian flavor, which is why Lyubov Mykhailivna was persecuted, and her work was silenced”, added the mayor of Bucha.
